Effortlessly add or edit PAYE and HMRC information for smooth payroll processing

Written by Sharabin Mathi

This article explains how to add or update your company’s PAYE and HMRC details in MDP. These details are required for payroll processing and RTI submissions.

Quick Navigation

Accessing the PAYE and HMRC section

PAYE and HMRC is the next step in the company setup process. Once you have completed the general company details, click Save & Next to continue to the PAYE and HMRC section.

Adding PAYE and HMRC Details

You will need to provide the company’s PAYE Reference Number and HMRC Gateway details, which are required for RTI submissions. You can also enter an HMRC correspondence email address, if applicable.

The PAYE reference consists of:

  • A three-digit HMRC office number

  • A unique reference number for the business

Example: 123/A56789 or 123/AB56789

Employment Allowance

If your company is eligible for Employment Allowance:

  1. Select the relevant Tax Year. The current tax year and the previous two tax years are available for selection.

  2. Enable the "The company is entitled to Employment Allowance" toggle.

  3. Enter the Employment Allowance Amount Claimed.

Note: The current tax year is selected by default.

Apprenticeship Levy Allowance

If your company is eligible for Apprenticeship Levy Allowance:

  1. Select the relevant Tax Year. The current tax year and the previous two tax years are available for selection.

  2. Enable the "The company pays Apprenticeship Levy" toggle.

  3. Enter the Apprenticeship Levy Allowance: Choose £15,000 or enter a custom amount. If you selected "Custom Amount", an additional field will appear for manual entry.

  4. Apprenticeship Levy Amount Claimed: Enter the claimed amount for the selected tax year.

Note: The current tax year is selected by default.

  5. Small Employer's Relief: Enable this option if your company qualifies for Small Employer’s Relief (e.g., for statutory payments like Statutory Maternity Pay - SMP).

    1. If total NI contributions (both employee and employer) in the qualifying tax year are less than £45,000, check the provided box.

    2. If total NI contributions exceed £45,000, leave the box unchecked.

Automatic EPS (Employer Payment Summary) Submission

If you want to submit your EPS automatically, enable this option and select the day of the month on which the EPS should be submitted each month.

Note: The submission date must be between the 6th and 19th of the month.

HMRC Notices

To automatically apply HMRC notices, enable the Auto-apply HMRC Notices toggle and select the Apply Notices Effective from date.

To archive historical notices, enable the Archive Historical Notices toggle.

Latest IR Mark retrieved

This section allows you to add the IR Mark, a software-generated reference from HMRC, for notifications such as P6, P9, SL1, SL2, PGL1, PGL2, and RTI.

  • The IR Mark functions as a sequence number, ensuring that notifications appear in the HMRC Inbox in order. If left blank, notifications from the start of the company's operations will be included.
