This article can be used for importing several different accepted file types but the example used will be for the standard MDA format.
Instructions
Go to Financial Accounting > Banks.
Upon clicking into the banking screen, you will see the below menu on the right-hand side of the screen. You want to click on the following button.
If you cant see this icon, you will need to change the bank type, as you will be currently linked to HSBC open banking feeds. To change to CSV upload, click on this button -> Action -> Setup -> Select "Statement CSV Upload", then you will see the Upload button, displaying in the banks screen.
Upon clicking on the Upload button, you will reach the below screen where you will first need to select the the bank from the drop down. Here you can choose which file format you are importing if it is a standard export from one of the compatible banks. In this example, we will use the system standard “MDA Format”. You can download the template for each format if you select the bank format in the list and click "Download".
Following this, you will want to click on “Select File” and select the file you wish to upload from your documents.
Bear in mind that the file type should be csv and file size needs to be less than 2MB
If you do not bank with HSBC, RBS/Natwest or RBS/Natwest Bankline, you will have to take the transactions from your download and input them into “MDA Format” in excel.
Our MDA format looks like the below and it is important to note that the system does not accept special characters such as £, $, ^. In addition, the headers must have the first letter as a capital and the date must be in the format of DD/MM/YYYY. For negative transactions, you will show this by using a minus (like the below transaction for John Smith), and for positive transactions ie. Receipts, you would not use a minus.
Once you have uploaded the bank file you should click “Upload Bank Statement” and then these transactions should show up in the banking screen once the import task is completed (as per the example screenshot below) where they can be matched.
