Downloading the Template
Click the “Verify VAT” button for the period you are trying to submit for. You will be taken to the below screen:
To download the template, click the blue-colored "Download Template" highlighted in red below.
Completing the template
Once you have downloaded the template, open the document in Excel. It will look like the below.
Add your nine box figures to this template and save the file to your computer. N.B., from April 2020, you will be required to make “digital links” to your nine box figures. This is an HMRC initiative to help tackle VAT fraud. This can be achieved by simply adding your underlying transactional data as secondary, tertiary, etc. tabs behind this template and using a formula to link the nine box figures to your underlying data. Our template must be the first sheet in the workbook in order to be uploaded successfully.
Uploading the template
Once you have completed the template and saved it to your computer return to the My Digital Bridge system and the upload file screen (by clicking on “Verify VAT” button of the quarter you want to submit).
Click on “Select file…”
A pop-up window will appear and ask you to search for the document that you created and saved earlier. Choose your document and press “open”. Please note that the file must have been saved as either an xls. or xlsx. file and be less than 2MB in size.
Your file will then be uploaded to the system, and the name of your file will appear on the screen with a green tick next to it. Once you can see this on screen, press the “Upload” button.
Checking your figures
Once you have uploaded your document to the system, you will be given the opportunity to review the figures. At this stage, the system will also warn of any issues with your return that may need adjusting before you can submit.
At this stage, your figures are saved but not submitted; therefore, you can leave the system and return to this same point at a later date if you wish. You can do so by pressing the back button and logging out of the system. When you are ready to return, simply search for the quarter and hit the “verify VAT” button, and it will resume where you left off.
If you need to adjust your figures, you can do so by amending your Excel document and re-uploading it. You can do this by pressing the “Upload Excel” button (highlighted below) and following the steps above.
If all the figures look good for you, you can proceed with making a payment by clicking the "Make Payment" button.
